Financial Contributions to the City of Toronto and it’s Taxpayers

  • Over the 20 year term of the contract the City of Toronto will receive approx. $915 million in value which includes:
    • $415 million in rent
    • $200 million for the construction of the street furniture, at no cost to the City
    • $300 million in maintenance and repairs, at no cost to the City
  • As requested by City Council, the $415 million in rent is directed to initiatives that will deliver enhanced streetscaping, neighbourhood beautification and other physical public realm improvements within the City’s road allowances.
  • Projects that have benefited from funding through the street furniture program include urban street tree maintenance and a one-time contribution of $5 million to the revitalization of Nathan Phillips Square and many other local projects.
  • The street furniture program creates employment for more than 200 people in the local economy and close to 80% of all capital expenditures for the program is provided to Ontario-based companies.
