Au pays des Mitchifs

This documentary series provides a glimpse into the St. Laurent Métis nation on Lake Manitoba, taking viewers on a four-season journey with the most active and talented hunters, trappers, and fishers in the community. Elk, duck, Canada goose, deer, bear, muskrat, beaver, walleye, and carp – these are only some of the species harvested by these men and women who have only nature as their boss. Despite the hanging of their leader, Louis Riel, at the end of the 19th century and the dispossession of their land, the St. Laurent Métis have resisted. To this day, they remain a vibrant community that has successfully preserved its language and traditional lifestyle.
