TORONTO (March 25, 2013)
 – As the only animal entertainment brand that captures the drama and compelling characters of the animal kingdom, Animal Planet obviously hearts the planet! And so, to celebrate Earth Day 2013 – the largest, most-celebrated environmental event worldwide – Animal Planet offers up four special presentations. The festivities begin Sunday, April 21 at 7 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT with a three-hour marathon of ATTENBOROUGH: 60 YEARS IN THE WILD, Sir David Attenborough’s very own “Diamond Jubilee.” Then, on Earth Day itself – April 22 – Animal Planet presents a bold, signature lineup of provocative programming that highlights the most compelling stories in the animal kingdom today, including: JANE’S JOURNEY, WHALE WARS: SEAL WARS and the Canadian premiere of WHALE WARS: OPERATION BLUEFIN.

Highlights from THE EARTH DAY 2013 SPECTACULAR include:

ATTENBOROUGH: 60 YEARS IN THE WILDSunday, April 21 beginning at 7 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT – THREE-HOUR MARATHON
Over three very personal films, Sir David Attenborough looks back at the unparalleled changes in natural history that he has witnessed during his 60-year career. In Episode 1, “Life on Camera,” he looks back on the iconic animal encounters which have shaped his career from the early black-and-white Zooquest days when he had to describe the colour of the animals he filmed, to a close encounter with a lion pride in pitch darkness. In Episode 2, “Understanding the Natural World,” Attenborough examines the incredible scientific breakthroughs within his lifetime that have helped to shape an understanding of the world. And, finally, in “Our Fragile Planet,” Attenborough tells the often surprising and deeply personal story of the changes in the environment, the pioneering conservationists whose footsteps he followed, and of the revolution in attitudes towards nature.

Monday, April 22 at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT

Animal Planet joins Dr. Jane Goodall on an international expedition in JANE'S JOURNEY. During the two-hour special, viewers embark alongside Dr. Goodall from her childhood home in Bournemouth, England, and travel with her to her second home, Gombe National Park, which is located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania. At Gombe, Dr. Goodall's groundbreaking research forever changed the world's perspective of chimpanzees and set her on an unparalleled path. The special explores Dr. Goodall's life among the chimpanzees and provides exclusive access and unique insight into her love of animals and her drive to empower others to make the world a better place for all living things.

Monday, April 22 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT

The world’s largest marine mammal slaughter of 85,000 still-nursing baby seal pups begins annually on July 1st in Namibia. WHALE WARS: SEAL WARS is a shocking one-hour special documenting this brutal ritual. The special follows the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s 2011 Mission in Namibia – known as Operation Desert Seal. In the face of heavy security and threats of violence, Sea Shepherd launches Operation Desert Seal in an attempt to end the clubbing of fur seals along Namibia’s Skeleton Coast. Viewer discretion is advised.

Monday, April 22 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT

The mighty Bluefin is on the brink of extinction. Canadian Captain Paul Watson along with Sea Shepherd enters the war-torn waters of Libya to defend the lucrative fish from illegal poachers in this all-new one-hour WHALE WARS special presentation.
