EDMONTON (April 30, 2014) 100.3 THE BEAR announced today that its MONTH OF GIVING fundraising effort has successfully raised $20,000 to benefit Leann’s Wheelchair Van Bottle Drive. The bottle drive initiative, announced on Tuesday, April 22 by THE PAUL BROWN SHOW co-host Gillian Foote, set out to raise the remainder of funds needed to buy local eight-year old Leann and her family a wheelchair-accessible van.

Leann has cerebral palsy, and her family had been fundraising for months with small bottle drives of their own to purchase a custom vehicle to accommodate her needs. With $9,000 outstanding, Leann’s family reached out to the 100.3 THE BEAR team, who encouraged listeners to drop off empty bottles and cash donations.

Following an overwhelming response from listeners and friends of the station - not to mention a mountain of bottles - on Tuesday, April 29, THE PAUL BROWN SHOW presented Leann and her family with a donation of $20,000 for Leann’s wheelchair van and other expenses.

“We never imagined a response on this scale,” said Rob Vavrek, Program Director, 100.3 THE BEAR, TSN 1260. “The outpouring of support from 100.3 The Bear listeners and the community of Edmonton has surpassed all of our expectations. We are excited to continue supporting children and childrens’ organizations in need over the upcoming weeks as The Bear’s (Children’s Fund) Month of Giving continues.”

100.3 THE BEAR’s MONTH OF GIVING is an initiative of THE PAUL BROWN SHOW that encourages community support of worthy children’s charities. Every year, members of the morning show select a worthy cause and facilitate a good deed using funds raised from THE BEAR Children’s Fund.
