Bell Media Takes Home 19 Awards During the First Two Nights of the 2013 Canadian Screen Awards

TORONTO (March 1, 2013) – Bell Media today congratulates its production partners and staff on a combined 19 wins during the first two nights of the Canadian Screen Awards, handed out last night in Toronto. In total, Bell Media and its production partners received 82 nominations for this year’s Canadian Screen Awards, with Pink Sky Entertainment/Avamar Entertainment’s FLASHPOINT garnering 11 nominations, more than any other television program. Congratulations also go to Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium, who won all four of their categories during Wednesday night’s ceremony, as well as Jeanne Beker, who was honoured with an Academy Achievement Award for her exceptional contributions to Canadian TV.

Fans can also get the opportunity to meet their favourite TV stars at the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television’s FanZone, Saturday, March 2 from 12 – 2 the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto. Hosted by SPACE’s Teddy Wilson, the FREE event gives fans the opportunity to meet and get an autograph from celebrities including Bell Media’s Sergio Di Zio (FLASHPOINT), Ennis Esmer (THE LISTENER), Erica Durance (SAVING HOPE), Kristin Lehman (MOTIVE), Brian Williams (TSN), and Aislinn Paul and Jahmil French (DEGRASSI), and more.

CTV’s FLASHPOINT garnered wins for its critically-acclaimed final season, including Best Direction in a Dramatic Series and Best Writing in a Dramatic Series, and was also honoured with an Academy Board of Directors’ Tribute For Outstanding and Enduring Contributions to Canadian Television. Wendy Crewson was also awarded the Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Series for CTV’s SAVING HOPE.

Also recognized last night were MuchMusic’s DEGRASSI with two wins, including Best Children's or Youth Fiction Program or Series; the 2012 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS; Bravo’s THE BORGIAS, which received two awards, and Bravo’s THE TEMPEST. SPACE also took home three awards, with two wins for TODD & THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL and one for BEING HUMAN.

On Wednesday night, Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium was honoured with four awards including Best Live Sporting Event, and Best Sports Play-by-Play Announcer for TSN's Rod Smith. 

Canadian Screen Week, the annual celebration of excellence in Canadian film, television, and digital media productions, began on Wednesday night in Toronto and wraps up on Sunday, March 3, 2013, where film and additional television awards will be handed out, including Best Dramatic Series and Best Comedy Program or Series.
