Canadians Rank CTV’s THE BIG BANG THEORY as Their Favourite Comedy of All Time

TORONTO, ON (May 14, 2019) – It may have started with a big bang, but Canada’s most-watched series is bound to go out with one as well. As the series finale of CTV’s THE BIG BANG THEORY approaches, airing this Thursday, May 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, CTV.ca, and the CTV app, a new survey from data service firm Maru/Blue reveals that when asked to rank their favourite comedy amongst a series of popular comedies past and present, Canadians ranked THE BIG BANG THEORY as their favourite comedy, ahead of series including fellow ratings juggernauts FRIENDS, SEINFELD, THE OFFICE, CHEERS, and the iconic I LOVE LUCY.

The survey also discovered that more than 60% of Canadians feel the series is likely to encourage more people to consider careers in science, and respondents credit THE BIG BANG THEORY with making science more compelling.

During the one-hour series finale of THE BIG BANG THEORY, “The Change Constant” and “The Stockholm Syndrome” (Thursday, May 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, CTV.ca, and the CTV app), Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) await big news. Then, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) leave their kids for the first time; Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) try to keep a secret; Sheldon and Amy stick together; and Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar) makes a new friend, as the gang travels together into an uncharted future.

But first, ETALK PRESENTS: THE BIG BANG THEORY (Thursday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, CTV.ca and the CTV app) delivers an unforgettable exclusive special from THE BIG BANG THEORY set in sunny Los Angeles, hosted by ETALK anchor and YOUR MORNING co-host, Ben Mulroney. The special takes a look back on THE BIG BANG THEORY’s unprecedented success and its long-standing connection with ETALK. During the special, ETALK dives in to the vault of memorable moments with the cast that span more than a decade. From ETALK’s very first interview with the cast, to joining the cast live in front of screaming fans at Bell Media Studios back in 2010, to every red carpet at every award show over the years, ETALK celebrates the series and the legacy it leaves behind. 

Finally, the 30-minute retrospective UNRAVELING THE MYSTERY: A BIG BANG FAREWELL (Thursday, May 16 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, CTV.ca, and the CTV app) features series stars Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco as they take viewers behind the scenes of the longest-running multi-camera comedy series in television history. Galecki and Cuoco lead viewers on a trip down memory lane, sharing some of the best-kept backstage secrets and personal memories from the past 12 years. They will reveal their favourite moments from playing beloved characters Leonard and Penny, and revisit some of the most memorable stories from “The Big Bang Theory Stage.” In addition, the special will feature a tour of the iconic sets, including Leonard and Sheldon’s apartment, unforgettable clips, and interviews.

(From April 26th to April 28th 2019, an online survey of 1,515 randomly selected Canadian adults who are Maru Voice Canada panelists was executed by Maru/Blue. For comparison purposes, a probability sample of this size has an estimated margin of error (which measures sampling variability) of +/- 2.5%, 19 times out of 20. The results have been weighted by education, age, gender and region (and in Quebec, language) to match the population, according to Census data.
