VANCOUVER (May 30, 2014) – CTV News Vancouver’s Tamara Taggart has been named Broadcaster of the Year by the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters (BCAB) at its annual conference. Announced earlier this evening at a ceremony in Whistler, B.C., the award recognizes individuals who have set a high standard of excellence in the broadcast industry and made significant contributions to their station and to broadcasting as a whole.
“It is with great pride that we honour Tamara’s recognition as Broadcaster of the Year in B.C.,” said James Stuart, Regional Vice-President, Radio and Local Television, Bell Media. “Tamara’s work as a broadcaster represents the very best in our industry, and she consistently leads by example with her many charitable commitments, helping to make a positive and lasting impact in her community.
Taggart’s broadcasting excellence has earned the recognition and loyalty of viewers across the Vancouver region, as well as several broadcasting awards including Best Local TV Anchor 2011 (shared with co-anchor Mike Killeen), along with Best Local TV Weather Person and Best Local TV Personality from The Georgia Straight’s Best of Vancouver Annual Readers’ Choice Poll (2002-2004).
Taggart has also been named Woman of the Year at the 2003 Consumer's Choice Awards, Favourite TV Personality (2006-2009), Favourite Weather Personality (2006-2007), and Favourite TV Special Features Reporter (2006-2009) by the TV Week Readers' Choice Awards.
Taggart is equally known for her tireless contributions within the community across many charitable and not-for-profit organizations. She is a proud Chair of the B.C. Women’s Hospital’s “Hope Starts Here” campaign, and sits on the boards at The Kettle Friendship Society, The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, and the Pacific Parkland Foundation. Taggart is also a founding board member of the Rare Disease Foundation, and a major supporter of the Developmental Disabilities Association and the B.C. Centre for Ability.
Appointed Co-Anchor of CTV NEWS AT SIX on January 3, 2011 and a member of the CTV News team since 1997, Taggart has previously enjoyed stints as co-host of VANCOUVER BREAKFAST and as Weather Specialist for the evening and late-night newscasts. Notably, in 2009 Taggart was the only Canadian broadcaster selected from among thousands of applicants across North America to co-host one episode of LIVE! WITH REGIS AND KELLY in New York City.
