CTV Programming Highlights: Dec. 2 – 19

CTV keeps viewers in great spirits this December with the super-simulcast network premiere of the feature film CORNER GAS: THE MOVIE, and the standalone two-hour MASTERCHEF CANADA: A HOLIDAY SPECIAL, a first for the MASTERCHEF format internationally. CTV also delivers viewers the season finale of THE AMAZING RACE, and the epic two-part crossover of THE FLASH and ARROW. Plus, all-new episodes from the network’s #1 fall lineup including SAVING HOPE, THE MENTALIST, MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., ONCE UPON A TIME, THE MCCARTHYS, and more.

Programming Highlights for Dec. 2 – 19 on CTV and CTV GO include:

 

  • Oliver (Stephen Amell) and his friends visit Barry (Grant Gustin) in Central City to investigate a case involving a deadly boomerang-wielding killer (Nick Tarabay, Star Trek Into Darkness) in the epic two-part THE FLASH and ARROW crossover event (Dec. 2 and 3)
  • Lisbon (Robin Tunney) goes undercover as a prison inmate in order to get a convict to turn on her boyfriend, who is the leader of a high-end car theft ring on THE MENTALIST (Dec. 4)
  • Lauren Lee Smith (THE LISTENER) and Rebecca Dalton (SPUN OUT) guest star on an all-new episode of SAVING HOPE (Dec. 10)
  • This two-hour special features returning MASTERCHEF CANADA Season 1 home cooks as they participate in a series of festive food challenges to win $10,000 for the charity of their choice in MASTERCHEF CANADA: A HOLIDAY SPECIAL (Dec. 15)
  • The new one-hour original special, ETALK 2014: STARS AND SCANDALS, counts down the biggest celebrity stories of the past year (Dec. 16)

Tuesday, Dec. 2

8 p.m. – THE FLASH – “Flash vs. Arrow” – NEW EPISODE – PART ONE OF THE EPIC CROSSOVER EVENT

Barry (Grant Gustin) is thrilled when Oliver (Stephen Amell, ARROW), Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards, ARROW), and Diggle (David Ramsey, ARROW) come to Central City to investigate a case involving a deadly boomerang. Excited about teaming up with his friend, Barry asks Oliver if he'd like to help him stop Ray Bivolo (Patrick Sabongui), the meta-human Barry is currently tracking. When Oliver tells Barry he still has a lot to learn, Barry sets out to prove him wrong by attempting to stop Bivolo alone. However, when Bivolo infects Barry and sets him on a rage rampage, everyone is in danger, and the only one who can stop him is the Arrow.

 

9 p.m. – MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. – “Ye Who Enter Here” – NEW EPISODE –

S.H.I.E.L.D. discovers the ancient city before Hydra does, but uncovering the secrets may require one of Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) team to make the ultimate sacrifice.

 

Wednesday, Dec. 3

8 p.m. – ARROW – “The Brave and the Bold” – NEW EPISODE – PART TWO OF THE EPIC CROSSOVER EVENT

Oliver (Stephen Amell), Arsenal (Colton Haynes), and Diggle (David Ramsey) track down the location of a boomerang-wielding killer named Digger Harkness (Nick Tarabay, Star Trek Into Darkness) but are surprised when they come face to face with an A.R.G.U.S. team. Diggle asks Lyla (Audrey Marie Anderson) why A.R.G.U.S. is involved but she defers until Harkness attacks the building, killing several agents and targeting Lyla. The Arrow joins the fight and gets help from his friend, The Flash (Grant Gustin, THE FLASH). Harkness manages to get away and Oliver teams up with Barry again to find him before he can get to Lyla.

 

10 p.m. – SAVING HOPE – “The Heartbreak Kid” – NEW EPISODE

Dr. Joel Goran (Daniel Gillies) and Dr. Alex Reid (Erica Durance) try to make dinner plans – but not before Joel gets wrangled into working a day at the street clinic. It proves to be more than he bargained for when a chatty, recovering addict, Teddy (Damien Atkins, Take This Waltz), graces him with his presence – and an ever changing medical story. Joel has to use his street smarts to try and rescue Teddy before time runs out. Meanwhile, Dr. Alex Reid (Erica Durance) and Dr. Charlie Harris (Michael Shanks) try to find their rhythm while teaming up on a teenage girl’s double-surgery. Dr. Maggie Lin (Julia Taylor Ross) loses favour with Dr. Sydney Katz (Stacey Farber), and has to pull through when reunited with David Zarb (Joris Jarsky, The Incredible Hulk) ), the husband of a five-month pregnant woman who suffered an aneurysm in the hospital and rendered her brain-dead earlier this season.The episode guest stars Michael Shanks’ wife and actress Lexa Doig (CONTINUUM) as Selena Quintos.

 

Thursday, Dec. 4

8:30 p.m. – THE GOLDBERGS – “I Rode a Hoverboard!” – NEW EPISODE – NEW DAY AND TIME

Adam (Sean Giambrone) breaks his arm and exaggerates at school that he fell off of a hover board just like in the Back to the Future movie. Meanwhile, when the family falls in love with the new Chinese restaurant in town, Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) fears she’s being replaced in the kitchen.

 

9 p.m. – TWO AND A HALF MEN – “Alan Shot A Little Girl” – NEW EPISODE

When Alan (Jon Cryer) realizes Louis (Edan Alexander) thinks he’s cool, he starts breaking Walden’s (Ashton Kutcher) rules in order to stay that way.

 

9:30 p.m. – THE MCCARTHYS – “Why Guys Shouldn’t Date Their Sister’s Ex” – NEW EPISODE

When Marjorie (Laurie Metcalf) learns Jackie’s (Kelen Coleman) ex-boyfriend is gay, she tries to fix Ronny up with him. Meanwhile, Sean (Jimmy Dunn) gives Gerard (Joey McIntyre) a birthday gift that proves to be disappointing to everyone but Marjorie.

 

10 p.m. – THE MENTALIST – “The Greybar Hotel” – NEW EPISODE

Lisbon (Robin Tunney) goes undercover as a prison inmate in order to get a convict to turn on her boyfriend, who is the leader of a high-end car theft ring.

8 p.m. – THE AMAZING RACE – “Smells Like Dirty Tube Socks” – NEW EPISODE  

Teams race to Manila, Philippines where they get muddy with an ornery Ox during a memorable switchback challenge from season five

 

9 p.m. – GRIMM – “The Grimm Who Stole Christmas” – NEW EPISODE
Nick (David Giuntoli) and Hank (Russell Hornsby) are called to investigate a bizarre string of home invasions that lead to an even stranger Wesen phenomena.

 

Sunday, Dec. 7

8 p.m. – ONCE UPON A TIME – “Shattered Sight” – NEW EPISODE

Storybrooke is in a state of chaos with all the residents under the Snow Queen’s (Elizabeth Mitchell) Spell of Shattered Sight at each other’s throats. Then, Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Elsa (Georgina Haig) race against the clock to free themselves of the ribbons and take down the Snow Queen and her curse.

 

9 p.m. – RESURRECTION – “Aftermath” – NEW EPISODE

The stem cells from Rachael’s (Kathleen Munroe) baby prove to provide a cure for the ongoing virus, but when Rachael suddenly goes missing, Bellamy  (Omar Epps) and Maggie turn to an unexpected source for help.

 

10 p.m. – CSI – “Let’s Make a Deal” – NEW EPISODE

The CSI team investigates a murder at Clark County jail after an inmate stumbles upon a body while running away from officers.

 

Monday, Dec. 8

When a taxi cab driver is killed with an antique sword, an anonymous caller weaves a tangled web to draw Henry (Ioan Gruffudd) under his influence.

When an ER physician is gunned down in the street, Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) soon discover that the victim was a mob doctor to a Mafia family run by an old friend of Castle's.

 

Tuesday, Dec. 9

8 p.m. – THE FLASH – “The Man in the Yellow Suit” – NEW EPISODE

Barry (Grant Gustin) enjoys the annual tradition of tree trimming and gift exchange with Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Iris (Candice Patton). He gives Iris a touching gift, but the moment is interrupted by Eddie's (Rick Cosnett) arrival.

 

9 p.m. – MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. – “What They Become” – NEW EPISODE –FALL FINALE

Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Whitehall's (Reed Diamond) forces meet in an explosive confrontation that dramatically alters everyone's fates. Meanwhile, Skye (Chloe Bennet) discovers shocking secrets about her past.

 

Wednesday, Dec. 10

Laurel (Katie Cassidy) is stunned when her father (Paul Blackthorne) delivers a very special Christmas gift – her mother, Dinah (Alex Kingston, DOCTOR WHO).

 

9 p.m. – CRIMINAL MINDS – “Amelia Porter” – NEW EPISODE
When the BAU is called to Salt Lake City, Utah, to investigate a triple homicide, the search for a connection among the victims leads them to a fugitive who could have ties to the UnSub.

 

10 p.m. – SAVING HOPE – “The Other Side of Midnight” – NEW EPISODE

Dr. Zach Miller (Ben Ayres) pulls together a ‘polytrauma team’ to save the life of Nathan “The Rocket” Stewart (Peter Valdron, Backlash) after his latest race track injury, causing Dr. Alex Reid (Erica Durance), Dr. Joel Goran (Daniel Gillies), Dr. Shahir Hamza (Huse Madhavji), and Dr. Maggie Lin (Julia Taylor Ross) to tag in and out of the marathon surgery to fix the driver. When Alex and Joel butt heads over the best course of treatment for the patient, they can’t help but reflect on their own bumps in the road as “the right team.” It’s Dr. Charlie Harris’ (Michael Shanks) day off – and his expectations of a quiet morning are interrupted with the arrival of a beautiful woman passing time in the hotel bar. Charlie contemplates a romantic life without Alex…until an emergency has him rushing back to the hospital. The episode also guest stars Lauren Lee Smith (THE LISTENER) as Astrid Rae and Rebecca Dalton (SPUN OUT) as Nora.

 

Thursday, Dec. 11

Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) turn to Raj (Kunal Nayyar) for help in dealing with a work emergency. Also, Amy (Mayim Bialik) throws an authentic Victorian Christmas party, and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) seeks revenge on her for making him celebrate the holidays.

 

8:30 p.m. – THE GOLDBERGS – “The Most Handsome Boy on the Planet” – NEW EPISODE

A modelling agency scout sees Barry (Troy Gentile) at the mall and convinces him that he has a future in modelling. When Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) hears this, she fully supports her son, even though it's clearly a scam.

MASTERCHEF CANADA: A HOLIDAY SPECIAL is a two-hour instalment of the hit culinary competition, a first for the format internationally. Fan favourite home cooks from MASTERCHEF CANADA Season 1 return to the kitchen, but they’re not cooking alone. Fun-loving Albertan Dora Cote; larger-than-life flavour queen Tammara Behl; loveable Italian dad Pino DiCerbo; and Season 1 runner-up, spicy Trinidadian twin Marida Mohammed, are joined by their family members as they complete a series of festive food challenges – a first in any MASTERCHEF kitchen. Each returning home cook gets feedback from MASTERCHEF CANADA judges Michael Bonacini, Alvin Leung, and Claudio Aprile, with each family cooking to win $10,000 for the charity of their choice.

The new original special ETALK 2014: STARS AND SCANDALS counts down the biggest celebrity stories of the past year. From Bieber’s arrest to Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s elevator altercation, and the many weddings, hookups, and breakups in Hollywood – it’s been a busy year in entertainment. Candid and uncensored, the one-hour special also features interviews with Tom Cruise, Selena Gomez, and Taylor Swift. Plus, the ETALK team including Ben Mulroney, Danielle Graham (McGimsie), Lainey, Traci Melchor, Devon Soltendieck, and Jessi Cruickshank reminisce about their favourite on-set moments and celebrity interviews of 2014, including bloopers and outtakes caught on camera. 8 p.m. – CTV MOVIE: CORNER GAS: THE MOVIE – SUPER-SIMULCAST NETWORK PREMIERE ON CTV AND CTV TWO

Ten years after the debut of one of Canadian television’s most beloved comedy series, CORNER GAS returns to CTV and makes its super-simulcast network premiere just in time for the holidays. In the not-to-be-missed two-hour film, it’s been five years and there’s still not a lot going on 40 kilometers from nowhere. But that’s all about to change as the fine folks of Dog River, Saskatchewan face their biggest crisis ever. Brent (Brent Butt) and the gang discover that the town’s been badly mismanaged, leaving residents with little choice but to pack up and leave. As residents make one last rally to save Dog River as they know it, they discover a devious plan by a corporate giant that would change life for Dog Riverites forever. An encore presentation of CORNER GAS: THE MOVIE airs Saturday, Dec. 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV.

In a must-watch cliff-hanger of SAVING HOPE, Dr. Alex Reid (Erica Durance), Dr. Maggie Lin (Julia Taylor Ross), and Dr. Dana Kinney (Wendy Crewson) spend the morning hearing celebrated surgeon Thor MacLeod (Currie Graham, DALLAS) talk about his near-death experience. When a fellow fan loses control and nearly dies, Alex finds herself in the hospital alongside Thor in an effort to save the man’s life. But when Thor’s connection to the patient is revealed, Alex can’t help but wonder if the doctor is truly who he appears to be.
