TORONTO (July 10, 2014) – As was announced earlier today bythe Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, HBO, Showtime, and IFC programmingseen in Canada exclusively on The Movie Network (Eastern Canada), Movie Central(Western Canada), and HBO Canada, is nominated for 111 PrimetimeEmmy® Awards. Highlights for HBO, which received the mostnominations of any network for the 14th year a row, include 19nominations forGAME OF THRONES; 16 nominations for the originalfilmTHE NORMAL HEART; 12 nominations for TRUEDETECTIVE; and five nominations for the freshman comedySILICON VALLEY. Highlights from Showtime include Lizzy Caplan’sfirst ever Emmy nomination asOutstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Seriesfor MASTERS OF SEX. The66th PRIMETIME EMMYAWARDS air live, Monday, August 25 exclusively on CTV.Subscribers can currently catch up on select award-nominated programming viaon-demand platforms.

 

GAME OF THRONES, the most-watched series in Canadian Pay TVhistory, leads the way in this year’s Emmy race with a total of 19 nominations,the most of any program. The series is recognized in key categories likeOutstanding Drama Series,Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series (Lena Headey), and Outstanding Supporting ActorIn A Drama Series (Peter Dinklage).

 

HBO’s critically lauded powerhouse drama, TRUE DETECTIVE,garnered 12 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series andOutstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series with nods for AcademyAward® winner Matthew McConaughey and Academy Award®nominee Woody Harrelson. TRUE DETECTIVE was the most-watcheddebut season ever on HBO Canada when it premiered earlier this year. HBO comedyseriesGIRLS and VEEP are both nominated forOutstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress In A ComedySerieswith nods for both Lena Dunham and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. HBO’s newcomedy seriesSILICON VALLEY is nominated five times, includinga nod forOutstanding Comedy Series.

 

HBO’s powerful original film THE NORMAL HEART is nominatedfor 16 awards, including Outstanding Television Movie and actingnominations for Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Jim Parsons, Matt Bomer, AlfredMolina, and Joe Mantello.

 

Additional highlights from Showtime include three out of six actingnominations in theOutstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series categoryfor HOUSE OF LIES’ Don Cheadle, EPISODES’ MattLeBlanc, andSHAMELESS’ William H. Macy. Edie Falco alsogarnered a nod forOutstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series forNURSE JACKIE, while Jon Voight is nominated as OutstandingSupporting Actor In A Drama Series for RAY DONOVAN.

 

The IFC comedy series THE SPOILS OF BABLYON is alsonominated for two awards, including a nod for Kristen Wiig as OutstandingLead Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie.
