The 107th GREY CUP presented by Shaw may not be until November, but there’s already been a massive touchdown. As announced in an ETALK exclusive sit-down interview last night on CTV, four-time GRAMMY© Award-winner Keith Urban will headline the 2019 Freedom Mobile Halftime Show at McMahon Stadium, airing live from Calgary, Nov. 24 on TSN.
Urban has sold more than 20 million albums, six of which have reached No. 1. His latest release, We Were, has already been streamed over 57 million times worldwide. In addition to his four GRAMMY© Awards, he has won multiple Canadian Country Music Awards, 13 CMAs, 15 ACMs and four American Music Awards.
Keith broke the news to you that he will be performing at the Grey Cup halftime show. How excited should fans be to have him headline Canada’s biggest party?
Liz Trinnear: “On a scale of 1 to 10, GREY CUP fans should be at a solid 11. Keith is not just a musician, he is an ENTERTAINER. When it comes to his music catalog, there is a song for every person to love. If you've ever had the chance to see him live, you know he was born to perform on stage and after countless trips around the world, performing to thousands, night after night, he's ready for the GREY CUP. The man also performed in Niagara Falls for New Year’s Eve, so he knows a thing or two about playing his guitar in freezing cold temperatures.”
Sitting one on one with the country music superstar, how did you prepare for the interview?
LT: “I prepared for my interview with Keith like I would any other. Immerse myself in his art by listening to his music the entire ride there, reading up on the latest news and diving into his past. I have so much respect for an artist like Keith. I’ve had the privilege of interviewing his wife Nicole Kidman several times and she is one of the kindest souls out there, so I was excited to have time with Keith. After our 20-minute chat, I can say he and Nicole share the same kind heart.”
What advice would you give Keith to prepare for a trip to Calgary in November?
LT: “Have heaters on stage, wear a heated jacket and toque, and put hot pockets in the boots. Basically do everything you can to prepare your Nashville-acclimated body for what will feel like frigid temperatures in Calgary!”
What do you think fans can expect from his half time performance?
LT: “Keith and his band are unreal live. He is in the company of greatness with his band so I think fans can expect a great concert, excellent guitar playing, songs to sing along to, and he will get you on your feet!”
