TORONTO (May 21, 2014) – Stopping at nothing to go faster – the drivers and daredevils of MEGASPEED just love the rush. Premiering Thursday, June 19 at 7 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT on Discovery, the all-new original Canadian series from Discovery Canada’s award-winning international production house, EPI (Exploration Production Inc.) transports viewers on a six-episode high-intensity thrill ride – with each hour featuring multiple story arcs. Narrated by former Much VJ and current CP24 BREAKFAST co-host Steve Anthony, the series showcases the world’s most iconic motorsports events including the Bonneville Salt Flats, the European Rally Championship, Big Rig Truck Racing, the Mojave Mile, the Goodwood Vintage Revival, and the Baja 1000.
Speed is a universal language, and how it’s achieved can differ from country to country and culture to culture. But no matter the race or the stakes involved – it all comes down to that extra mile per hour or extra RPM – whatever it takes to shave a second off the time. MEGASPEED goes behind the driver’s seat and profiles the personalities who push the limits to end up on the podium.
Episode highlights from MEGASPEED are as follows:
MEGASPEED: “Bonneville Salt Flats”
Thursday, June 19 at 7 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT
The Vesco family try to set a new land-speed record on their beloved “flats” – a record they’ve held since 2001.
MEGASPEED: “European Rally Championship”
Thursday, June 26 at 7 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT
Rookies are determined to make a name for themselves on the European Rally Championship Series, but they’ll have to do it on the toughest track on the circuit – the San Remo Rally.
MEGASPEED: “Big Rig Racing”
Thursday, July 3 at 7 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT
Big Rig racing features five-ton vehicles jockeying for position on a track built for “normal” race cars. It’s a lot like a demolition derby as the giants of the track bump and push each other around in search of the checkered flag.
MEGASPEED: “Mojave Mile”
Thursday, July 10 at 7 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT
The Mojave Mile is in the middle of Mojave Desert, and the place to go for speed-addicts. A San Diego gearhead takes it to “The Mile,” hoping he can make history behind the wheel of his classic roadster.
Thursday, July 17 at 7 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT
The Goodwood Vintage Revival is one of the most prestigious events on the motorsport calendar, while the British Lawnmower Championship isn’t. Although they both attract a different clientele, each event features wheel-to-wheel racing, engineering excellence, and an unmatched competitive spirit. The only difference is about a ton of mud.
MEGASPEED: “Baja 1000”
Thursday, July 24 at 7 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT
At the iconic Baja 1000, drivers are determined to conquer whatever the desert throws at them this year and cross the finish line first. It won’t be easy, of the 240 trucks that will start, less than 10% will survive the ultimate endurance race.
MEGASPEED is produced by Exploration Production Inc. in association with Discovery Canada. Gemini-nominee Karen McCairley (MIGHTY SHIPS, ALIEN MYSTERIES) is the show’s Executive Producer.
