MONTREAL (March 12, 2013)TSN Radio 690 Montreal today announced that former Montreal Canadiens enforcer Chris ‘Knuckles’ Nilan has signed on as host of afternoon show OFF THE CUFF WITH CHRIS NILAN from 1-3 p.m. ET, debuting Monday, March 18. Nilan will also join host Tony Marinaro from 12 noon to 1 p.m. ET on THE INTERMISSION.

“There is no other team I’d rather talk about and no other city I’d rather live in,” said Nilan. “I’m honoured to join the home of the Montreal Canadiens and work with the same passionate Habs fans that welcomed me with open arms during my hockey career.”

“When Chris made it clear he wanted to pursue a career in broadcasting we made no promises. What we did do was open a door so he could reconnect to the city he loves and to the many fans who love him,” said Mitch Melnick, Host, MELNICK IN THE AFTERNOON, TSN Radio 690 Montreal. “To his credit, Chris has kicked that door down.”

Nilan spent 13 seasons in the NHL, 10 of them with the Canadiens. He holds the franchise record for most career penalty minutes at 2,670 but also scored in double figures three times in his career including a 21-goal season in 1985 and 19 more the following year when the Habs won the Stanley Cup.

Nilan was featured in the 2011 film, Last Gladiators, directed by Academy Award winner Alex Gibney. The film chronicles several former NHL enforcers, led by Nilan, who spent much of their careers protecting star players. As his way of giving back, he has been touring the country visiting schools with the No More Bullies campaign benefitting Kids Help Phone, using his story to inspire youth to stand up to bullying.

TSN Radio 690 Montreal is the official radio voice of the Montreal Canadiens with exclusive coverage of every Habs game.
