HBO Canada, The Movie Network, and Movie Central Programming Garners 124 Nominations for the 67th PRIMETIME EMMY® AWARDS

TORONTO (July 16, 2015) – First-run, headline-making premium programming from HBO and SHOWTIME, available in Canada exclusively on The Movie Network (Eastern Canada), Movie Central (Western Canada), and HBO Canada, continues to lead the television industry with 124 Primetime Emmy nominations, as was announced earlier today by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Highlights for HBO, which received the most nominations of any network for the 15th year a row, include: 24 nominations for GAME OF THRONES; 13 nominations for OLIVE KITTERIDGE; 12 nominations for BESSIE; 10 nominations for BOARDWALK EMPIRE; and nine nominations for VEEP. Highlights for SHOWTIME programming include lead acting nominations from series RAY DONOVAN, NURSE JACKIE, SHAMELESS, HOUSE OF LIES, and EPISODES along with additional nominations for MASTERS OF SEX and PENNY DREADFUL. The 67th PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS air live, Sunday, Sept. 20 exclusively on CTV.

GAME OF THRONES, the most-watched series in Canadian Pay and Specialty TV history which recently ended its fifth season with an average audience of 1.4 million viewers on HBO Canada, once again leads the Emmy race with 24 nominations. The series is recognized in key categories such as Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series (Peter Dinklage), Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series (Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke), and Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series (Jeremy Podeswa, David Nutter).
HBO’s critically acclaimed miniseries OLIVE KITTERIDGE garnered 13 nominations including Outstanding Limited Series, Outstanding Lead Actor In A Limited Series Or A Movie (Richard Jenkins), and Outstanding Lead Actress In A Limited Series Or A Movie (Frances McDormand). The HBO original film BESSIE is nominated for 12 awards, including one for Outstanding Television Movie while Queen Latifah earned a nod for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Limited Series Or A Movie. HBO comedy series VEEP and SILICON VALLEY are nominated for nine and seven awards respectively, including nominations in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, while VEEP’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series along with supporting actor nods for Tony Hale and Anna Chlumsky. Meanwhile THE NEWSROOM’s Jeff Daniels is nominated for Lead Actor In A Drama Series and Lisa Kudrow is nominated for Lead Actress In A Comedy Series for THE COMEBACK.
Additional HBO (and CINEMAX) nominated programming includes: BOARDWALK EMPIRE (10 nominations); SILICON VALLEY (seven nominations including Outstanding Comedy Series); THE JINX: THE LIFE AND DEATHS OF ROBERT DURST (six nominations including Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Series); THE KNICK (five nominations); FOO FIGHTERS: SONIC HIGHWAYS (four nominations); LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER (four nominations); CITIZENFOUR (four nominations); GIRLS (two nominations); HELLO LADIES: THE MOVIE (two nominations); and NIGHTINGALE (two nominations). BEYONCE JAY Z ON THE RUN, BILL MAHER: LIVE FROM DC, THE COMEBACK, GETTING ON, THE NEWSROOM, TRUE BLOOD and VICE all garnered one nomination each.
SHOWTIME had a strong showing in the Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series category with nods for Matt LeBlanc (EPISODES), Don Cheadle (HOUSE OF LIES), and William H. Macy (SHAMELESS), while Edie Falco lands her 12th Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series for NURSE JACKIE, tying the record for most Lead Actress Emmy nominations ever. RAY DONOVAN’s Liev Schreiber is also nominated for his first Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series category.
Additional SHOWTIME-nominated programming includes PENNY DREADFUL and MASTERS OF SEX, which garnered three nominations each.
