TORONTO (December 11, 2014) – HBO and Showtime programming seen in Canada on The Movie Network, Movie Central, and their multiplex channel HBO Canada makes its mark this awards season, with 24 Golden Globe Award nominations and 16 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. For outstanding performances in 2014 in film and television categories, HBO received nominations for TRUE DETECTIVE, GAME OF THRONES, GIRLS, OLIVE KITTERIDGE, THE NORMAL HEART, BOARDWALK EMPIRE, SILICON VALLEY, THE KNICK, and VEEP, while Showtime’s nominations include THE AFFAIR, RAY DONOVAN, HOUSE OF LIES, SHAMELESS, and NURSE JACKIE. HBO highlights from the Golden Globes announcement include: four nominations for TRUE DETECTIVE, including Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, and acting nods for Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, and Michelle Monaghan; three nominations for the critically lauded miniseries OLIVE KITTERIDGE; comedy acting nods for GIRLS’ Lena Dunham and VEEP’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus; and three nominations for HBO’s powerful original film THE NORMAL HEART. Clive Owen also received an acting nod for his role as Dr. John Thackery in the drama, THE KNICK.

Showtime shines in the 2015 Golden Globes race with three key nominations for the freshman drama, THE AFFAIR, including Best Television Series – Drama, Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama (Dominic West), Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama (Ruth Wilson), in addition to acting nominations for Liev Schreiber (RAY DONOVAN), Edie Falco (NURSE JACKIE), Don Cheadle (HOUSE OF LIES), William H. Macy (SHAMELESS), and JON VOIGHT (RAY DONOVAN).

Meanwhile, TRUE DETECTIVE’s Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, VEEP’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus, OLIVE KITTERIDGE’s Frances McDormand and Richard Jenkins, the cast of BOARDWALK EMPIRE, NURSE JACKIE’s Edie Falco, and SHAMELESS’ William H. Macy, all vie Screen Actors Guild Awards amongst many more.

THE 72nd ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS air Sunday, Jan. 11 live across the country at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CTV, and the 21st ANNUAL SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARDS are presented Sunday, Jan. 25.
