Television’s biggest night of the year didn’t disappoint for HBO, with the network taking home awards in some of the top categories at THE 70TH EMMY® AWARDS in Los Angeles last night.
Stand-out wins included:
CREDIT: FRAZER HARRISON/GETTY IMAGESGAME OF THRONES led with nine Emmys, including wins for Outstanding Drama Series, and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Peter Dinklage, his third win overall. GAME OF THRONES, which is now streaming on CraveTV, also took home seven awards at the Creative Arts Emmys held on September 8 and 9, including Outstanding Special Visual Effects and Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes. Last night’s awards bring the total wins for the series to 47 overall, the most wins ever by a comedy or drama series.

Late-night funnyman John Oliver won his third consecutive Emmy in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category for LAST WEEK TONIGHT, currently airing Sundays at 11 p.m. ET on HBO Canada and available on TMN GO. Oliver was also awarded a Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series.

Powerhouse Thandie Newton won her first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as brothel madam-turned freedom fighter Maeve in WESTWORLD, currently available on TMN GO. Taking the stage for her acceptance speech, Newton was sure to give a special shout out, saying “I don’t even believe in God, but I’m going to thank her tonight.”

Fresh off its debut season and now available on TMN GO, BARRY took home three awards last night. Bill Hader added a second Emmy to his collection, winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Hollywood legend Henry Winkler also took home an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, his sixth nomination and first win.
