It’s a Bloody Record Audience for TSN’s Broadcast of Toronto FC’s Home Opener

TORONTO (March 24, 2014) – TSN’s broadcast of Toronto FC’s home opener on Saturday was a record-breaker, as overnight data from BBM Canada confirms that TFC’s 1-0 win over DC United attracted a record average audience of 352,000 viewers, making it the most-watched MLS game ever on English television in Canada.*

The previous high for an MLS audience on Canadian English-language television was for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s only playoff appearance in 2012 (average audience of 335,000).

Audiences for the home opener were up 18% compared to the TFC season opener last week in Seattle (299,000 on TSN).

Overall, 1.6 million unique viewers tuned in to TSN to watch the network’s exclusive coverage of TFC’s home opener, which also featured the home debut of highly-touted new additions Jermain Defoe, Michael Bradley, Júlio César, and returning hometown star Dwayne De Rosario.

Live MLS coverage continues this weekend with a prime-time doubleheader featuring the undefeated Vancouver Whitecaps FC taking on Houston on Saturday (March 29) at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on TSN2. Defoe and the 2-0 Toronto FC take on Real Salt Lake at 9:30 p.m. ET on TSN2. Live streaming of all MLS games on TSN and TSN2 is available to TSN subscribers on TSN GO.

TSN also has live coverage of the highly anticipated BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE Manchester derby featuring local rivals Manchester United and Manchester City tomorrow (Tuesday, March 25) at 3:30 p.m. ET.
