“Women run comedy. I always get that question ‘Is it hard being in such a boys club?’ The only remnant left of the boys club is that question. Comedy is run by women. It’s all Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and Chelsea Handler and Whitney Cummings and Chelsea Peretti and Tig Notaro… it’s a very different world. – Sarah Silverman at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival

TORONTO (September 25, 2015) – Behind every clever punchline, there’s an even funnier woman. Following a recent contentious Vanity Fair article, DAILY SHOW host Trevor Noah commented that, “women are more powerful than men in comedy right now,” and E! viewers see it first-hand with the sharp new docu-series FUNNY GIRLS premiering Monday, Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. ET. The series follows the professional and private lives of six female comics as they climb their way to the top of the stand-up ladder. While they differ in their levels of experience, styles of comedy, and ultimate career goals, these bright entertainers share the drive and passion to make it big. Mentored by noted comedians including Margaret Cho, Bill Burr, Loni Love, Janeane Garofalo, and Horatio Sanz, the bold women provide a fresh perspective on life as they pursue comedic fame in a male-dominated industry.
