New scientific paper explores WESTWORLD and Artificial Intelligence

— April 27, 2018

Science Magazine, the world’s leading outlet for cutting-edge research in all areas of science, recently published a paper examining how WESTWORLD depicts Artificial Intelligence (AI). The paper also explores how scientists are trying to cross “the uncanny valley” and make interactions with robots more human-like. Authored by Dr. Robin Murphy, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University, the article compares the hosts (robots) of the original 1973 Westworld film to those in the HBO series. Discovery’s DAILY PLANET recently sat down with Dr. Murphy to chat about this new study and her thoughts on WESTWORLD. Watch the clip below. New episodes of WESTWORLD air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Canada. Click HERE for a sneak peek at Episode 2, airing this Sunday, April 29.
