This past Saturday, STAR TREK took over the iconic Hall H at San Diego Comic Con for the massive Star Trek Universe panel, delivering an abundance of news and surprises about the upcoming new series STAR TREK: PICARD and the return of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY
With the full STAR TREK: PICARD cast and creative team in attendance, Sir Patrick Stewart kicked off all the action by revealing the first trailer:
As revealed in the trailer and during the panel, a few iconic characters from the STAR TREK franchise are set to make appearances in STAR TREK: PICARD, including STAR TREK: VOYAGER’s Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), and STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION’s Lieutenant Commander Data (Brent Spiner) and Hugh (Jonathan Del Arco). As if that news wasn’t enough, the three returning fan-favourites were brought on stage to join the panel, much to the delight of fans. ETALK was on the scene to capture Jeri Ryan’s arrival, followed closely by the arrivals of Spiner and Del Arco.
It was also announced during the panel that two additional characters from STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION are slated to make appearances in STAR TREK: PICARD – Commander William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis).
STAR TREK: PICARD wrapped up their appearance at San Diego Comc Con with one final piece of news – an anticipated premiere date of early 2020.
STAR TREK: PICARD, which follows the iconic character into the next chapter of his life, is set to air day-and-date with the U.S. on Space (soon to be CTV Sci-Fi Channel) and Z (in French), and stream only on Crave the following day.
Before STAR TREK: PICARD took the stage, the STAR TREK: DISCOVERY panel kicked off the Star Trek Universe event. Series star Sonequa Martin-Green, new cast member David Ajala (FALLING WATER), and executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Michelle Paradise, and Heather Kadin were welcomed to the stage with cheers from the packed room.
Sonequa Martin-Green kicked of the panel by announcing that principal photography on the third season of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY just began in Iceland earlier this month. With production officially underway, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY revealed a series of first look images:
In the recently released first look photos, fans get a look at the brand new character, Cleveland Booker, a.k.a. Book, played by David Ajala (FALLING WATER). Described as smart and capable, Book has a natural charisma and devil-may-care attitude that tends to get him into trouble as often as it gets him out.
Executive producer Alex Kurtzman also revealed during the STAR TREK: DISCOVERY panel that Season 3 will jump ahead 1000 years in to the future.
“We’re going 1000 years into the future for season 3... Lots and lots of changes! But it’s still #StarTrek and will always be Star Trek” #alexkurtzman #StarTrekDiscovery #SDCC pic.twitter.com/Hy4LOPC8vz— etalk (@etalkCTV) July 20, 2019
Season 3 of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY will return to Space (soon to be CTV Sci-Fi Channel), Z (in French), and stream exclusively on Crave, with broadcast details to be announced.
