News Talk Radio, CJAD 800 was honoured on Saturday at the RTDNA’s National Conference of Canada’s electronic journalists and news managers at a gala ceremony in Toronto. The Montreal radio station won the RTDNA’s Peter Gzowski Award for overall excellence in a News Information Program.
The station was recognized for a special edition of THE AARON RAND SHOW on July 9th, 2013, from Lac-Mégantic. The show broadcast from outside the Polyvalente Montignac, the local high school transformed into a crisis centre in the aftermath of the rail tragedy which claimed 47 lives.
“This award means a lot to the team. We worked very hard to tell the story the way it needed to be told,” said CJAD 800 Program Director Chris Bury. “The Lac-Mégantic broadcasts were challenging from every point of view, but we were convinced our hosts, producers, and reporters needed to be there.”
CJAD 800 is planning a special series and another remote broadcast to mark the one-year anniversary of the Lac-Mégantic disaster. Details will be announced soon.
The AARON RAND SHOW can be heard weekdays, from 3PM to 7PM, on CJAD 800 (AM) or through the digital stream at CJAD.com.
CTV News and Bell Media Radio properties received 10 National RTDNA awards. Four CTV television broadcast news programs and three Bell Media Radio submissions received National recognition, having previously earned top honours at a Regional RTDNA awards ceremony held earlier this year. Saturday’s recognition brings Bell Media’s tally of National and Regional RTDNA awards to 42 this year.
