Premium Programming on Movie Central, The Movie Network and HBO Canada Takes Centre Stage At The 65TH Emmy® Awards With 27 Wins

TORONTO (September 23, 2013) – Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada) and Bell Media’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada), and their multiplex channel HBO Canada, are pleased to announce that HBO, Cinemax and Showtime programming airing on  the channels garnered 27 Primetime Emmy® Awards during last night’s broadcast on CTV as well as the Creative Arts Primetime Emmy® Awards.

HBO Film BEHIND THE CANDELABRA, directed by Steven Soderbergh, led all nominees and stole the spotlight with 11 Emmy® Awards, including Outstanding Miniseries or Movie, Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special (Steven Soderbergh) and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie (Michael Douglas).

HBO Series VEEP was another standout, with wins in major acting categories including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Tony Hale).

Other multi-win programs from HBO include BOARDWALK EMPIRE, which won five awards, including Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Bobby Cannavale) and Outstanding Art Direction for a Single-Camera Series, and GAME OF THRONES, which collected two Emmys, including Outstanding Makeup for a Single-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic) and Outstanding Special Visual Effects.

Showtime’s NURSE JACKIE received two Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Merritt Wever in her role as Zoey Barkow.
