TORONTO (June 27, 2014) –The Movie Network and Movie Central announced today that production has begun in Toronto on Season 2 of the one-hour, action-packed original Canadian drama series TRANSPORTER – THE SERIES from QVF Inc. and Atlantique Productions. Following production stints in both Morocco and the Czech Republic earlier this year, Canadian production is scheduled to run in Toronto until mid-August. Award-winning writer and producer Frank Spotnitz (THE X-FILES, STRIKE BACK, HUNTED) serves as showrunner and executive producer for the 12-episode season.
TRANSPORTER – THE SERIES is currently slated to premiere on Bell Media’s The Movie Network and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central in Fall 2014 and the series is slated to have its U.S. debut on TNT in late 2014.
“It’s not often you get the chance to tackle a unique and iconic character like Frank Martin, and it’s been a lot fun to work on TRANSPORTER – THE SERIES,” said Showrunner and Executive Producer Frank Spotnitz. “Television gives you a much larger narrative canvas than feature films, and I think we’ve been able to expand and deepen the world of Transporter in really interesting ways. From a purely cinematic standpoint, to be able to film in places like Morocco, Prague, and Toronto is incredibly exciting. I can’t wait to see how fans respond.”
“We are extremely excited to produce a second season of such a popular franchise as TRANSPORTER – THE SERIES. After shooting in North Africa and in Europe, we are now about to start principal photography of the last four episodes in Toronto. The stakes are high and we have assembled a great team to achieve the right mix of action, story, humour, and adrenaline to please the fans and the audience around the world,” said Producer Olivier Bibas.
“We are thrilled to be back in action with QVF and Atlantique Productions and look forward to raising the bar even higher with a second season of this exhilarating, globe-trotting series,” said Corrie Coe, Senior Vice-President, Independent Production, Bell Media.
"Frank Spotnitz has a proven track record of bringing a cinematic perspective to television by combining great action and high-stakes drama. The second season of TRANSPORTER – THE SERIES will deliver even more thrilling story lines, exotic locals, fast cars and heart-stopping stunts for audiences.” said Maria Hale, VP, Head of Content Distribution & Pay TV Corus Entertainment.
Chris Vance (PRISON BREAK, DEXTER) returns as Frank Martin, a professional transporter who carries anyone or anything, anywhere, for a price. Vance is joined in Season 2 by Italian actress Violante Placido (The American), in the newly created role of Caterina Boldieu, a former French intelligence officer who works for Frank as a strategist and risk assessor, as well as Canadian actor Mark Rendall (30 Days of Night) who plays Jules Faroux, a computer and mechanical whizz.
TRANSPORTER – THE SERIES is produced by Gemini Award winner Susan Murdoch (DOOMSTOWN) for QVF Inc. and Olivier Bibas (BORGIA) for Atlantique Productions. Chris Vance and Fred Fuchs (The Godfather: Part III) serve as executive producers.
