Riders Up! King of the Crown Keeps the Horses in the Front

— May 3, 2019

Legendary horse trainer Bob Baffert looks to make history yet again as TSN heads south to the iconic Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky for the 145th KENTUCKY DERBY, airing tomorrow (Saturday, May 4) at 4:30 p.m. ET.

The best-odds colt at this year’s KENTUCKY DERBY is Game Winner and it’s no surprise that Baffert trained the three-year-old thoroughbred. With five KENTUCKY DERBY wins already to his name, the accomplished trainer hopes to add one more to tie the record for most KENTUCKY DERBY wins set by Ben Jones from 1938-1952.

Baffert has two other horses in this year’s Run for the Roses, Roadster and Improbable, whose odds are also at the top of the leaderboard. If that doesn’t knock your Derby Hat off, Baffert’s accomplishments do not end there – his horses have also won seven Preakness Stakes, three Belmont Stakes, and three Kentucky Oaks.

In the history of the American Triple Crown, only thirteen horses have won all three races and Baffert had a hand in training two of them: American Pharoah (2015) and Justify (2018). He is just the second trainer to ever accomplish that feat.

So, pour yourself a mint julep, place your bets, and tune in to TSN as the network delivers the most exciting two minutes in sports.

Following the KENTUCKY DERBY, TSN heads to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore for the PREAKNESS STAKES on May 18, followed by the BELMONT STAKES from Belmont Park in Elmont, New York on June 8. TSN’s complete 2019 horse racing broadcast schedule is available here.
