TORONTO (January 28, 2016) – Canadians are investing in BILLIONS. On the heels of Tuesday’s announcement that BILLIONS has been renewed for a second season, it was confirmed today that the new big-buzz drama series from SHOWTIME has struck a chord with Canadian audiences with record turnout for both digital and linear platforms.
The first episode of BILLIONS, which streamed on CraveTV beginning on January 1, became the first new SHOWTIME series to be offered to all Canadians with access to the Internet when CraveTV launched direct-to-consumer on January 14. The result: the premiere of BILLIONS is the most-watched single episode of all time on CraveTV*. On The Movie Network, BILLIONS is the most-watched SHOWTIME series premiere ever**.
Episodes 1 and 2 of BILLIONS are streaming now on CraveTV and TMN GO. In the next episode of BILLIONS, streaming Sunday, Jan. 31 at 10 p.m. ET, entitled “YumTime,” Chuck (Paul Giamatti) discovers that while he pursued Steven Birch (Jerry O’Connell, WORKAHOLICS), the rival Eastern District has made inroads in the Axe (Damian Lewis) case and that he needs to get it back. Chuck horse-trades to regain control of a key witness, Pete Decker, a hedge fund manager with ties to Axelrod. At the same time, Axe makes an activist play for YumTime, a family owned bakery corporation. This move reverberates back to Chuck by way of a very personal connection between his father and YumTime.
BILLIONS weaves an intricate narrative featuring a high-stakes game of predator-versus-prey as it follows two highly ambitious opposing figures: hard-charging, blue-blooded, politically connected U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Oscar®-nominee and Emmy® and Golden Globe®-winner Paul Giamatti, Sideways) and brilliant, calculating, blue-collar billionaire hedge fund king, Bobby "Axe" Axelrod (Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Damian Lewis, HOMELAND). The series also stars Maggie Siff (MAD MEN), Canadian actress Malin Akerman (The Proposal), Toby Leonard Moore (DAREDEVIL), David Costabile (SUITS), and Condola Rashad (Steel Magnolias).
