TORONTO (May 6, 2014) – Mini, mighty, and marvelous! With a cast of miniature heroes, all less than 30 centimetres in size, the stars of HIDDEN KINGDOMS may be small but they can pack a punch well above their weight. A shrunken down and fully-immersive three-part series from the BBC, HIDDEN KINGDOMS premieres in a special back-to-back-to-back presentation on Sunday, May 25 beginning at 8 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT on Discovery. Chipmunks, elephant shrews, marmosets, and even giant rhinoceros beetles all face drama on a super-sized scale – with creatures this small, rain drops fall like meteorites, dust stings like gravel, and a breeze feels like a tornado!

In this episode, viewers follow the story of two young animals forced to grow up – and fast. In the African savannah, a baby elephant shrew learns how speed is the secret to survival amongst the largest animals on Earth; and in America, a young grasshopper mouse confronts the Wild West’s deadliest creatures to stake a claim of his own.

In the wild and ancient woods of North America, a young chipmunk is gathering a vital store of nuts ahead of his first winter – but ruthless rivals and hungry predators stand in his way. In the steaming rainforest, a young tree shrew is forced deep into the jungle to find food. She must draw on all her intelligence and agility if she is to escape the ultimate jungle predator: a reticulated python!

HIDDEN KINGDOMS: “Urban Jungles”

Sunday, May 25 at 10 p.m. ET/11 p.m. PT

The urban jungle is the ultimate hidden kingdom. In the colourful and chaotic streets of Rio, a young marmoset is accidentally separated from his street gang, and forced to confront of the many dangers of the busy and confusing city alone. In the futuristic metropolis of Tokyo, a rhinoceros beetle escapes his captors and begins an extraordinary journey through this alien world to find sanctuary.
