TORONTO (September 21, 2015) – Following yesterday’s announcement by the Toronto International Film Festival®, The Movie Network and production fund The Harold Greenberg Fund are pleased to congratulate their production and distribution partners on well-deserved awards for Room and Closet Monster. Pre-licenced by The Movie Network, Room (Elevation Pictures, Element Pictures, No Trace Camping Productions, FilmNation), took home the coveted People’s Choice Award, while Stephen Dunn’s debut film Closet Monster (Elevation Pictures, Rhombus Media, Best Boy Entertainment), pre-licenced by The Movie Network and also supported through script development and equity investment by the Harold Greenberg Fund, was recognized with the Best Canadian Feature Film. Earlier this year, Bell Media was proud to announce that it had supported 17 films for the 40th annual Toronto International Film Festival.
“This was an exceptionally strong TIFF for Canadian films, and we’re thrilled to see Room and Closet Monster win awards,” said Tracey Pearce, Head, Specialty and Pay, Bell Media. “Heartfelt congratulations go out to all the winners, especially our Canadian production and distribution partners at Rhombus Media, Elevation Pictures, No Trace Camping Productions, and Best Boy Entertainment.”
The Canada Goose Award for Best Canadian Feature Film was selected by a jury composed of filmmaker Don McKellar (The Grand Seduction, SENSITIVE SKIN), Jacqueline Lyanga (Director of AFI Fest), and Ilda Santiago (Programming and Executive Director of Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival). The Grolsch People’s Choice Award is voted decided upon entirely by TIFF audiences who this year were able to cast a ballot for their favourite Festival film for the 38th year in a row.
