9 p.m. – OLIVE KITTERIDGE – Season 1, Episode 1 of 4 – *Series Premiere*

Based on Elizabeth Strout’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, the four-hour miniseries spans 25 years and follows Olive (McDormand), a middle-school math teacher, and her relationships with husband Henry (Jenkins), the good-hearted town pharmacist; their son Christopher (John Gallagher Jr., HBO’s THE NEWSROOM), who chafes at his mother’s parenting style; and other denizens of their community in a seemingly placid New England town.

The special takes an honest and unfiltered look at what happens to one of the biggest names in the game once the final buzzer sounds at the end of a grueling NBA season. 9 p.m. – THE NEWSROOM – Season 3, Episode 1 of 6 – *Season 3 Premiere*

In the wake of the Genoa debacle, Will (Jeff Daniels), Mac (Emily Mortimer, DOLL & EM) and the “News Night” team decide to err on the side of caution in reporting a major breaking story, which may enhance credibility, if not ratings. Neal (Dev Patel, Slumdog Millionaire) faces a slippery slope when he’s contacted by an anonymous source in possession of stolen government documents revealing how false press stories planted in newspapers spawned fatal riots in Kundu. Sloan (Olivia Munn, NEW GIRL) looks to solve a takeover puzzle; Maggie (Canadian Alison Pill, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) is forced to pinch-hit for Elliot (David Harbour, Revolutionary Road) in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings.


10 p.m. – THE COMEBACK – Episode 1 of 8 – * Premiere*

THE COMEBACK follows Valerie Cherish (Lisa Kudrow), a fading TV “It Girl” who was once so desperate to stay in the spotlight that she allowed cameras to follow her every move as she appeared on a new sitcom, with disastrous results. Now, 10 years later, there’s more TV than ever, and she wants back in. Valerie has hired a student film crew to shoot footage she hopes will get network attention and put her back on the map.


10:45 p.m. – GETTING ON – Season 2, Episode 1 of 6 – *Season 2 Premiere*

Dr. Jenna James’ (Laurie Metcalf, THE BIG BANG THEORY) plethora of research projects threatens to take over the ward. A frustrated DiDi (Niecy Nash, RENO 911!) asks for a raise; Patsy’s (Mel Rodriguez, COMMUNITY) “Lean & Green” initiative causes problems; Dawn (Alex Borstein, FAMILY GUY) gets a surprising answer to what’s been ailing her. Charlie (Sam Waterston, LAW & ORDER) and Leona (Jane Fonda, Klute) enter the fray of a hostile-takeover gambit involving Reese’s (Chris Messina, THE MINDY PROJECT) half-sister, Blair (Kat Dennings, 2 BROKE GIRLS). Sloan fears Don (Thomas Sadoski, LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT) may be guilty of cashing in on insider information; Maggie ponders the ethics of eavesdropping; Hallie (Grace Gummer, AMERICAN HORROR STORY) pays a price for a late-night tweet.

Dottie (Betty Buckley, PRETTY LITTLE LIARS), an alcoholic patient, looks for ways around doctor’s orders.


Tuesday, Nov. 18

10 p.m. – STATE OF PLAY: HAPPINESS – *Premiere*

The first new edition begins with a 40-minute documentary that explores the burgeoning science of happiness, which maintains there are four basic pillars to being happy: relationships, health, purpose, and money. Through the lens of this new science, the film follows all-time great NFL quarterback Brett Favre, former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber, and former New York Jets wide receiver Wayne Chrebet as they search for happiness once their careers are over. Berg then hosts a roundtable discussion with former New York Giants star and pro football hall of famer Michael Strahan; former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell; and educator and author Shawn Achor, who advocates positive psychology.

A server crash forces the staff to go “old school” – with disastrous results. DiDi steps on Dr. Stickley’s (Mark Harelik, AWAKE) toes when making a decision about Arlene’s (Jean Smart, DESIGNING WOMEN) mother-in-law, while Dr. James has issues getting through to a deaf patient. Dawn buys a cello, and learns that her life-changing news may not be what it seems.

The second edition tells the story of college football player Eric LeGrand of Avenel,

New Jersey and mountain biker Steve Shope of Newfields, New Hampshire, who both competed at a high level, but suddenly became paralyzed on the field. This moving film follows both men and their families as they struggle to accept new physical limitations, painting a raw and inspiring portrait of endurance and love.

Facing a court subpoena and possible incarceration for contempt, Will stands firm in refusing to reveal the source of the stolen DOD documents. As Charlie’s disdain for Lucas grows, Sloan and Mac scramble to find a more acceptable 11th-hour buyer for ACN. Jim’s relationship with Hallie is put to the test by her new job at Carnivore, a start-up website.

10:30 p.m. – GETTING ON – Season 2, Episode 4 of 6

The staff finds itself in an awkward situation when one of Jenna’s “adult” study photos mistakenly makes its way into the Christmas card competition. DiDi is tempted by Parker Owens (LaMonica Garrett, SONS OF ANARCHY), a visiting doctor. Denya (Carrie Preston, TRUE BLOOD), a patient with terminal cancer, proposes a “final solution” to a startled Jenna. Patsy and Dawn’s relationship comes to a head.
