TORONTO (September 16, 2014) – TSN today announced a major expansion to its industry-leading hockey news and information team with the debut of TSN Hockey Analytics – a new focus on advanced stats.
The TSN Hockey Analytics team breaks down Corsi, Fenwick, zone starts, and more advanced stats from this new frontier of the hockey world. TSN Hockey Analytics will be featured in original content, delivering a new perspective to the industry-leading hockey coverage across TSN platforms, including live game broadcasts, TSN.ca, the TSN GO app, and TSN Radio stations across the country.
Popular hockey analytics writer Travis Yost joins TSN as a columnist appearing every Tuesday and Thursday during the season on TSN.ca, and as a frequent guest on TSN Radio. Yost has appeared as a regular contributor to The Sporting News, NHLNumbers.com, Ottawa Citizen, and HockeyBuzz.com, where he served as one of the site’s lead analytics writers in addition to covering the Ottawa Senators beat.
TSN’s resident stats guru Scott Cullen, one of the sport’s leading advanced stat and fantasy writers, expands his role on TSN.ca, while Globe and Mail hockey writer James Mirtle joins the TSN team as Toronto Maple Leafs analytics specialist, contributing stats-based storylines to all regional Leafs broadcasts on the network.
“Travis has distinguished himself as one of the most innovative thinkers in analytics, Scott is the backbone of TSN.ca advanced stats, and James contributes expertise on a team that has likely invested more resources in analytics during the off-season than any other in the NHL,” said Mark Milliere, Senior Vice-President of Production, TSN. “The rise of advanced stats and analytics has created a new world of opportunity for understanding the game of hockey, and with this all-star roster, TSN Hockey Analytics will now be the go-to resource for compelling stat-based hockey analysis.”
In addition, the TSN hockey news and information team – featuring TSN’s fan-favourite Hockey Insiders and experts – delivers breaking news, analysis, columns, blog posts, and tweets all season long on TSN.ca and the TSN GO app.
