TORONTO (September 13, 2016) – Fresh off the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the world’s elite volleyball players take centre stage at Toronto’s Polson Pier for the SWATCH BEACH VOLLEYBALL FIVB WORLD TOUR FINALS, live on TSN from Sept. 16-18. Featuring both the Rio 2016 men’s and women’s gold medallists, plus top Canadians who competed in Rio, the #TorontoFinals begins Friday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. ET on TSN and the TSN GO app with Canada’s Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter taking on Poland’s Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak. Hosted in Toronto for the first time in 16 years, the SWATCH BEACH VOLLEYBALL FIVB WORLD TOUR FINALS features 24 elite teams, with the men’s and women’s brackets each comprised of the Top 8 world-ranked teams plus four wildcard entries. At stake is the SWATCH BEACH VOLLEYBALL FIVB WORLD TOUR FINALS title and  $100,000 USD prize. The men’s side features Canadian stars Ben Saxton and Chaim Schalk; Rio 2016 Olympic Games gold medallists team Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt of Brazil; and Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallists Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeusen from the Netherlands. The women’s side includes Canadians and former teammates Sarah Pavan and Heather Bansley; Toronto’s Kristina Valjas and Jamie Lynn Broder; and two medal-winning teams from Rio 2016, gold medallists Laura Ludwig and Kira Waalkenhorst of Germany and USA’s bronze medallists Kerri Walsh-Jennings and April Ross. Held at Toronto’s Polson Pier, the SWATCH BEACH VOLLEYBALL FIVB WORLD TOUR FINALS combines sports and entertainment with music, food, free admission to matches, and an interactive vendor experience. The tournament is the sole Canadian stop on the tour and the first held in Canada since Québec City in 2011. The tournament caps off a competitive season which featured major events held around the world including Hamburg, Germany; Porec, Croatia; Gstaad, Switzerland; and Klagenfurt, Austria. Qualifying teams earned their invitation and a shot at the $500,000 prize pool through the accumulation of points at each major. This year’s tournament is the second edition of the SWATCH BEACH VOLLEYBALL FIVB WORLD TOUR FINALS following the inaugural event in Fort Lauderdale in 2015.
