TORONTO (October 30, 2014) – A loveless marriage, a bitter wife, and a plot to kill her husband seemed like an open-and-shut case, but the RCMP and the intended victim of a hit man would ultimately be shocked as the accused walked free. Premiering this Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO, and on-demand on the CTV NEWS GO app, W5’s “’TIL DEATH DO US PART” reveals the astounding case of a Nova Scotia woman who hired a hit man to kill her husband, only to be later acquitted following a series of court decisions.

The hour-long documentary, fronted by W5 Senior Reporter Victor Malarek, takes viewers through Nicole Ryan’s plot to murder her husband, Mike. After several failed attempts to find a killer for hire, Ryan finds a hit man - who’s really an undercover police officer. Chilling video shows Ryan setting a deadline to have her husband murdered, and then handing over thousands of dollars to pay for it. Shortly after these exchanges, she was arrested and charged with counselling to commit murder.

In a surprising twist to the case, Ryan brought forward claims during the trial of abuse by her husband, dumbfounding the RCMP and her intended victim. Ryan was acquitted, and following appeals right through to the Supreme Court of Canada, walked free. W5’s report details the RCMP investigation and disappointment with the stunning verdict, and includes interviews with another man who had also been solicited to kill Ryan’s husband.
